Do you think reading books with pop-up explanation of word, phrases, idioms etc. is a useful shortcut to reading original English literature?

You can see some such books here:

The Time Machine, by H.G.Wells:

Northanger Abbey, by Jane Austin:

Frankenstein, by Mary Shelly:

An interesting concept, it can be quite useful but the highlighted words can distract the reader and mislead them from the plot of the story.

If they could highlight themselves, then it would be worthwhile. The focus should be reading the entire text to fully understand the context.

The highlight can be switched off by choosing white color as a highlight. The pop-up will still be functioning if the reader points to the word. This way he will not be distracted.

Reading books with pop-up comments can be quite useful, especially for enhancing comprehension and engagement. These comments often provide additional context, explanations, or insights that can deepen your understanding of the text. They can highlight key points, historical background, or literary analysis that might not be immediately apparent. However, it's important to balance this with uninterrupted reading to fully appreciate the narrative flow. If used thoughtfully, pop-up comments can enrich your reading experience and offer valuable perspectives without overwhelming you.

Yeah, definitely! Having pop-up explanations for words, phrases, and idioms can make reading original English literature way less intimidating, especially for learners. It keeps the flow going without constantly stopping to check a dictionary. Have you tried any of these books? Curious to hear your thoughts!
