Hello,
how can the title of Michelle Obamas book "Becoming" be translated into adequate German ? The usual translation of "becoming" does not seem to be appropriate. It seems to pose a problem, because the book is sold in Germany with this English title. That's quite unusual, isn't it ?
Thanks
Klaus

I can't answer your question directly and I also wasn't aware of this book. But I just note, in case it's of interest:
a) the book is in three parts:
1.Becoming Me
2.Becoming Us
3.Becoming More
b) the word becoming can be both a verb and an adjective

Thanks for your reply..
"Becoming me, us, more " doesn't make sense either.

that's a becoming dress . That makes sense, but as the title of a book it doesn't.

She BECAME First Lady
It could be about her journey towards BECOMING FL

Hi Klaus,
The best approximation may actually be the Greek word metamorphosis in your language, which really does not carry the same sense of journey as "Becoming" does.
