The parade of the 5 planets; Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Mars and Jupiter.

For the first time in over a decade (last seen Dec.15, 2004 - January 15, 2005), a rare alignment of the planets Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Mars, and Jupiter is currently visible in the sky. The alignment began on Jan. 20 and will remain visible until Feb. 20, 2016. This phenomenon, properly known as a planetary conjunction is best viewed at dawn from the last week of January to the first week of February as the position of the moon provides sufficient light for the darker planets to be seen.

From the place where I stood, Venus and Jupiter became my guiding planet. Venus being the biggest and the brightest then followed by Jupiter though less brighter and a bit smaller has a reddish ray on its side. Then saw the red planet, Mars, on top of my head first, before I could locate Saturn. Since it's quite early in the morning Mercury was hardly seen. Well, maybe I could try again some other day.

According to EarthSky.org this rare phenomenon could be viewed again in the evening sky of August 13 - 19, 2016.
