singular or plural: [bad fate] or [bad fates]

Post by ansonman »

The word, fate, is both countable and uncountable. I have made up the similar sentences below.

(1) My uncle faced a lot of challenges throughout his life and never had any success. He told me that he always had bad fate.

(2) My uncle faced a lot of challenges throughout his life and never had any success. He told me that he always had bad fates.

I am not sure which form of "fate" is correct. Thank you for your help.

Neither usage is natural.

---> he had always had bad luck/fortune.
