using "will" twice in one sentence

Post by ansonman »

I have made up the examples below.
(1a) The research results scientists will announce next month will surprise everyone.
(2a) I will make sure that the mistake I made yesterday will not happen again.
(3a) The psychic predicts that twenty years from now, the person who will solve the most difficult physics problem will be a ten-year-old boy.

Most of my non-native English speaking friends think using "will" twice in the same sentence is not idiomatic. So they have corrected my mistakes, and I have written their corrections below.

(1b) The research results scientists announce next month will surprise everyone.
(2b) I will make sure that the mistake I made yesterday does not happen again.
(3b) The psychic predicts that twenty years from now, the person who solve the most difficult physics problem will be a ten-year-old boy.

I don't see anything wrong with my own sentences. Please give me your opinion. Thank you very much.

There is no specific rule prohibiting the use of 'will' more than once in a sentence.

However, regarding the examples you cite, the idiomatic choices are: 1a, 2b, and 3b (if amended as follows: solve -> solves).
