[by knitting] and [through knitting]

I have made up the sentences below.

(1) You can make these clothes by knitting them.

(2) You can make these clothes by knitting.

(3) You can make these clothes through knitting.

Most of my non-native English speaking friends think all of them are correct. However, my other friends think only (1) and (3) are correct. I am not sure who is correct. Please give me your opinion. Thank you very much.

#1 is the best choice.
