Mixed conditional #2

Post by Marcin »

Hi,
Previously, in "Mixed conditioanl" topic i asked about two sentences. They are both incorrect and you suggested using 3rd conditional instead. However, I wanted to use mixed conditional with this sentence (present condition -> past result). In the sentence below "if he wasn't smart" is present condition and "He would have got arrested" is past result. Is the sentence correct now?

He would have got arrested if he wasn't smart.

Thank you for your help.

Yes, this would be an acceptable mixed conditional by BrE standards, although most AmE speakers would prefer weren't to wasn't.
