Use of "the" for company name

Post by jiuntzen »

Hi. Do we need to put "the" in front of a company that is called "Matthew Companies" as in "the Matthew Companies"? I understand that "the" should be used when the company is called "Matthew Company" or "Matthew Corporation" but do we need to add "the" for "Matthew Companies"? Thank you.

The standard formula is e.g. 'Matthew & Co." (where 'co.' = company).

Since such formulae are considered proper names, no article is required.

'Corporation', as you correctly point out, is not used in the same way.
