Present perfect simple vs continuous #2

Post by Marcin »

Can you explain the difference between the two sentences below?

1. I have been visiting them every year.
2. I have visited them every year.

Is visiting in the first sentence still continuing and is it finished in the second sentence?

Thank you.

(A question about semantics rather than grammar, but...) contextually these could be interchangeable. However, the first suggests more strongly that the visits are likely to continue.
