Which of the following is correct?

1. He has taken ill today.
2. He was taken ill today.

The expression is “to be taken ill”.

It must have BE

He WAS taken ill
He has BEEN taken ill
He IS often taken ill
He may BE taken ill
He IS never taken ill
etc
