What are the differences between simple past tense and past perfect tense?

Hi!

These two tenses are used to talk about things that happened in the past. However, we use past perfect to talk about something that happened before another action in the past and is often expressed with past simplicity.
for example:
"I had already eaten my dinner when he called."
So there are two events that have happened in the past. for the event that occurs before them, we use past perfect tense.
