Hi ! I've got a question from the sentence down below. Could you let me know what does "held out our breath" mean ?
I've looked at the dictionary for "hold out" and found out the meaning which is something like endure, last or resist
I think the meaning I found is not right for the sentence below.
"We have held out our breath for this day, not to celebrate the achievement of one man but just know that we could do it."

meaning something like We have waited in great anticipation for this day
