I would recommend having as much fun as possible while you learn. Try this site: http://www.superkids.com/aweb/tools/words/

"Word for the Day" would be particularly useful I would imagine.

My best advice, though, is to keep a dictionary and thesaurus handy (here's a free one: http://www.britannica.com/dictionary?bo ... va=&query=) and look up a word you don't know every time you come across it.

Write it in your own personal dictionary (a looseleaf binder works well for this purpose since you can insert alphabetic dividers; use a single sheet of paper for each word). After you look up a word two or three times, your brain will tire of the activity and force you to remember it and then it will always be yours.

When you see this word again in print, note how it was used and include this under your reference as an example (include where it came from and the date).

If you do this with just one or two words a day, soon you will have a good working vocabulatory and some solid examples of how words are really used.

These are just some ideas that I have found personally useful, but I have never applied them to a second language. You might find them helpful though - I hope so :) Undoubtedly, the others in here will have more insight on this subject than me.

Good luck!
