amazing! you even know Mandarin! you must be a linguist.ProfessorVerb wrote:English is a ruthless language, but no more difficult I am sure than Mandarin. The folks in here will be pleased to help you learn. Simply post any questions you may have, and there are plenty of kind souls ready to help you learn. Good luck!
BTW, Cantonese is more difficult than Mandarian.

"Ruthless" means "having no ruths" ("Ruth" is a proper noun, but "ruth" means "compassion for the misery of another" but no one ever says that any more:

"Ruthless" therefore means "merciless" or "cruel."
The word can take an "a" or not depending on its usage; examples:
"He was ruthless in his prosecution of the guilty man"
"The jury was ruthless in finding him guilty."
"The fighters were ruthless in their match."
or
"She was a ruthless woman bent on destruction."
"He was a ruthless businessman who would not give discounts."
