Trees
By Jayce Kilmer
I think that I shall never see
A poem as lovely as a tree
A tree whose hungry mouth is prssed
A gainst the earth`s sweet flowing breast
A tree that looks as God all day
And lifts her leafy arms to pray
A tree that may in summer wear
A rest of robins in her hair
Upon whose bosom snow has lain
Who intimately lives with rain
Poems are made by fools like me
But only God can make a tree
--
thank you ..

A poem to remind us that trees are lively, are alive, are living being like us.
To remember us the meaning of respecting and preserving the nature.
To remember that we are not the only beings on Earth, that we are only a part of (eco)systems.
Human cannot live without nature. Nature can live without human being. [It does not mean that we don't have to care.]
Let us make the difference between believing and knowing ! each is independant on the other one.
Appearance is not the reality. A tree is moving despite we don't see her moving.
People don't believe more. They know. :( (like People don't read more. They write.)
A sad but hopefull poem :
- it describes the nowadays "world" badly but encourages us not to become hopeless and "I don't care."
- It can seem sad because of the monotony, repetitions of the "a" at each beginning. [and the structure does not change, two lines from beginning to ending]
- Let you see the dominant semantic field, the dominant lexical field.

A poem as lovely as a tree
The bad action from people, the "I don't care.".A tree whose hungry mouth is prEssed
Against the earth`s sweet flowing breast
Let us not stop believin' !A tree that looks as God all day

Let us remember and see her beauty !A tree that may in summer wear
A rest of robins in her hair
In spite of all events, all wheathers, he is lively (and not sad with rain, like some of us can think).Upon whose bosom snow has lain
Who intimately lives with rain
Human being has its own limits, and that is what we don't always like accepting, the limits of freedom. We have to make the difference between what God made and what Human made.Poems are made by fools like me

I will try attempt to analyze your poem. Please understand the beauty of poems. The writers compose them and it is up to the reader to interpret them however they want. So there really is no wrong interpretation.
Contrary to what Shokin said, I don't think this is a sad poem. I'm not saying he is wrong. It all depends on how you feel when you read it.
The poet compares a tree to a poem, saying a tree is much more beautiful.BLACK DEATH wrote:I think that I shall never see
A poem as lovely as a tree
He then compares a tree to an infant. The tree's roots are like an infant's mouth taking nutrients from the Earth (tree) and a mother's breast (infant).BLACK DEATH wrote:A tree whose hungry mouth is prssed
A gainst the earth`s sweet flowing breast
Displays the poet's faith. Even a tree shows the act of believing in God.BLACK DEATH wrote:A tree that looks as God all day
And lifts her leafy arms to pray
I think you mean nest. A tree will not care about the superficialty of appearance. A tree can look like anything and still be beautiful.BLACK DEATH wrote:A tree that may in summer wear
A rest of robins in her hair
A tree accepts anything and embraces all with no prejudice.BLACK DEATH wrote:Upon whose bosom snow has lain
Who intimately lives with rain
He once again refers to his reverence to God. Poems are inanimate, trees are very alive and God is the only one capable of creating such beauty. Appreciate all those that live.BLACK DEATH wrote:Poems are made by fools like me
But only God can make a tree

IMHO, this peom sucks anyway!
but I still decide to analyse it for you.
yes, since God can make a tree, why not just make this tree a wife?
but I still decide to analyse it for you.
I am a man, but I always call myself a tree. you know, that is a motaphor. and now I want a lovely girlfriend.I think that I shall never see
A poem as lovely as a tree
this tree-man is so desperate to get married, that way he can drink milk, as soon as he is hungry.A tree whose hungry mouth is prssed
A gainst the earth`s sweet flowing breast
he is dreaming about his future marriage life. hmmm, yummy.A tree that looks as God all day
And lifts her leafy arms to pray
A tree that may in summer wear
A rest of robins in her hair
Upon whose bosom snow has lain
Who intimately lives with rain
this tree-man knows he was made by God, so he thinks God should grant him a wife, when he wants to get married.Poems are made by fools like me
But only God can make a tree
yes, since God can make a tree, why not just make this tree a wife?

Thank you !RedRose wrote:glad to know you finally understand what how come means.shokin wrote:How come ?
If I have well understood, "how come ?" means "I didn't understand, can you explain me ?".
Great metaphorical interpretation that your ! I would not have imagined !
