Do you like...?

I wondered the other day why we say "Do you like pizza (singular)?" even though we say "Do you like hamburgers (plural)?" They both have a plural form, but we use singular in one instance and plural in the other.

Another example would be "Do you like cabbage?" vs. "Do you like carrots?"

Any ideas?
